As much as I try to stay current on the big news of the day, sometimes gems slip by.
I just stumbled across this nugget. A poll conducted over the summer by Public Policy Polling found that a slim majority of American's approve of god's job performance.
The overall results:
If God exists, do you approve or disapprove of
its performance?
Approve .......................................................... 52%
Disapprove....................................................... 9%
Not sure .......................................................... 40%
When you dive into the data, there are some interesting findings:
Young adults (ages 18-29) have strong opinions on god's performance. While a strong majority think god is doing just fine (67%), god also has the lowest negative ratings amongst the same demographic (18%).
God's approval ratings drop dramatically with the senior citizen set - only 40% of those over 65 think god is doing a decent job - while significantly better than congress, only 2 of 5 think god is doing a bang up job.
The majority of senior citizens (54%) just weren't sure about what to say about how to gauge god's job performance.
Regardless of the actual numbers, I find the question fascinating. "If God exists..." not to say which god, could be Yahweh, could be Allah, could be Gilgamesh...just if god exists, how do you feel about the job it is doing? Note the question is not "If you believe in god...," that changes the flavor of the question.
